Object doesn't support this property or method

You may receive a Object doesn't support this property or method error message when browsing the Services MMC. ActiveX controls may not load as expected in Internet Explorer due to defense in depth changes introduced in cumulative security update 896688 (MS05-052).

After you install cumulative security update 896688, a Web page that contains an ActiveX control does not load as expected.  Due to the fact that Windows use IE extensively for its management these problems have crept into everyday administrative tools.

Some of the symptoms

An error has occurred in the script on this page
Error:  Object doesn't support this property or method
    URL:  res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mmcndmgr.dll/views.htm

  • When you open the User Accounts applet in the Control Panel, you may receive the following error message:

Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment
  • System Restore window is completely blank.
  • Windows Update page displays the following message even though the ActiveX control is already installed, and the Information bar does not appear, thus you're unable to re-install the Windows Update ActiveX control.
